A New Horse

This is my new horse, Dakota.  He is a buckskin but is a registered paint.  Dakota is 15 years old and 16.2 hands.  I bought him in Lander, Wyoming.  He was the 6th horse that I went and looked at and test-rode.

  2. That is a pretty color...I somehow thought paints were covered in large brown or black and white...I know so little about those beautiful animals.

    1. Mary, you're correct about paints, but because Dakota's sire and dam are registered, he could be registered with the APHA. If you're interested check out my.apha.com/breed
and it explains what horses can registered paints. I'm not into bloodlines, so it didn't matter to me if my new horse was registered anything or not, but it is interesting to look at their pedigrees and also a good way to be sure they are the age the seller says they are. Dakota is what is called a "buttermilk buckskin" because he has the lighter cream colored body.
